it's comforting to know that activism can make a
difference. i had my midterm tonight, otherwise i would've wanted to go to the
protest. but hey, my pledge sister's in the second picture! yay
michelle! represent! =)
it still disturbs me that a lot of people don't see anything wrong with these t-shirts at all. i was talking to di who said one of her friends kept asking her why people would bother with this and not do something "more important" with their time...but we shouldn't accept such flaunting of stereotypes when we
can do something about it. the fewer people out there who wear those shirts, the better. especially with that line...yes, i'm going to harp on it. "two wongs can make it white"--not only does that parallel asians with wrongness and white people with "right", but it also suggests that it takes two asians to equal one white person. maybe the designer really didn't mean that when he or she wrote that line and claims they just meant white clothing, but that's what it comes across as on many levels. if you're making such a blatantly racial t-shirt with slant-eyed, conical-hat-wearing "wong brothers", equating "white" with caucasian is not that big of a leap of logic. "not meaning to" doesn't make it all okay. ignorance is not okay.
yeah, i'll get off my soapbox now. sorry. i need to sleep soon...after i study for my quiz. sleeping for two hours on a bio book doesn't really cut it.
