hey, my sister is in msj's multicultural assembly this year! she didn't even tell me! =P but yay, just like her big sis ;-) except she's in the filipino dance. that's so awesome...they were always really good every year. i want to go see her! damn my car-less-ness. ahaha i like my made-up word. it's like carelessness! yeah, good at stating the obvious, christina. sorry. still tired. still have quiz to study for.

*sigh* ah, i remember my old multicultural week days at msj. i'm getting all nostalgic. i miss my msj girls. let's go ribbon dance!

final note: commence hardcore job search.

it's comforting to know that activism can make a difference. i had my midterm tonight, otherwise i would've wanted to go to the protest. but hey, my pledge sister's in the second picture! yay michelle! represent! =)

it still disturbs me that a lot of people don't see anything wrong with these t-shirts at all. i was talking to di who said one of her friends kept asking her why people would bother with this and not do something "more important" with their time...but we shouldn't accept such flaunting of stereotypes when we can do something about it. the fewer people out there who wear those shirts, the better. especially with that line...yes, i'm going to harp on it. "two wongs can make it white"--not only does that parallel asians with wrongness and white people with "right", but it also suggests that it takes two asians to equal one white person. maybe the designer really didn't mean that when he or she wrote that line and claims they just meant white clothing, but that's what it comes across as on many levels. if you're making such a blatantly racial t-shirt with slant-eyed, conical-hat-wearing "wong brothers", equating "white" with caucasian is not that big of a leap of logic. "not meaning to" doesn't make it all okay. ignorance is not okay.

yeah, i'll get off my soapbox now. sorry. i need to sleep soon...after i study for my quiz. sleeping for two hours on a bio book doesn't really cut it.

i know i've emailed a bunch of people about this already...but boycott A&F. so many people wear abercrombie's clothes and so many more ignorant people will see these shirts on others. you might say they're just slightly distasteful and not excessively racist, but look closer at that "wong brothers laundry" T-shirt. it actually says "Wong Brothers, A Laundry Service 555-WONG. TWO WONGS CAN MAKE IT WHITE." wtf is that? yes, in the 1800s there were chinese people who worked in laundries, but that's because that was one of the few occupations they were allowed to hold. if you don't find something wrong with that shirt, especially that tagline, you must be ridiculously insensitive. and i love how they use a figure of worship for millions of people as another name for your butt. they should start a series of t's "starring" Allah and God going clubbing.

mmm...i never knew banana fritters were that good. they make me want to go to helen's pho and order their fried banana and ice cream. *sigh* good food.

midterm tomorrow night. oh baby.

from a conversation about porn last night: "god your sarcasm and standoff-ish attitude is such a turn on sometimes." aww thanks. and i still don't understand the point of a bunch of guys watching porn together, especially when some say, "oh, but we don't do anything together." it's beyond me.

sami asked me today what was the last fun thing i've done...and i couldn't answer her. i was trying to think of something concrete, some activity known to be fun that i've done recently, but all i could say was amanda's visit the other week. but now that i think about that question again, i've been having a lot of fun lately. well, a lot of stress and a lot of fun at the same time =) i never knew it was possible, but it's true. every moment spent stressing and planning and organizing is balanced by those fun, hilarious moments spent with my sisters and friends. i may not be able to say, "oh yeah, i went clubbing and saw a show and went partying the other night" but i sure as hell have had fun in every goofy moment with my girls =) and i think it's really those moments that count in life, those moments that leave your mind and heart lighter, not necessarily the activities you do with people.

"y'all gon' make me lose my mind!"

but at least i know there are people who will be there for me even when my mind has run away. =)

we said goodbye to claudia tonight at max's...so sad. =\ she'll be gone for months in japan...it will be odd to to not have her around--no one quite like claudia. i know she'll have tons of fun and come back even fobbier ;-)

uh...gonna do work now. right. freaking midterm on thursday--it said online that it was on the 24th! >=| this distresses me greatly.

i like how the meat sauce contains no visible meat. ah, dining hall food.

life would be so much simpler if everyone would just be honest. sometimes there's too much tact in the world. okay, tact definitely has its place, but there comes a point where all that cushioning, all that "softening the blow" crosses the line and just becomes outright lying. listen to what you're saying. are you going to follow through? then change your response to what you are going to do and euphemize the hell out of that if you have to.

this quarter was supposed to be one of academic reform. whoops. not really off to a great start.

i hate users.
